Dr Isabelle Needham-Didsbury

Therapist | Mindfulness & Self-Compassion Specialist, PhD

About me

I have spent the last 7 years away from my native UK, supporting children, young people and their families, initially in India and for the last 4 years in Indonesia.

I work with anxiety, low self-esteem and behavioural challenges (among other issues), helping others to develop emotional awareness, insight and practical skills which cultivate more emotional balance and ease. As an expat, and mother to a ‘third-culture kid’ (or cross-cultural kid), I am passionate about supporting families to navigate the cross-cultural experience, maximising its opportunities and managing its challenges through awareness and care.

If you’re struggling as a parent or witnessing your child in distress, reach out for an initial consultation to see how we might work together.

My Approach

As an integrative and relational practitioner, I respond to and meet the individual in front of me, tailoring my work to their unique needs as they arise from moment to moment.

Therapy for me is a deep relationship, all about supporting others to develop skills and wisdom that lead to a balanced and meaningful life - making sense of difficult emotions and experiences, becoming friends with our shadow sides and unintegrated parts of ourselves to feel whole and healed.

In this work, I utilise tools from contemporary western psychology - evidence-based exercises from cognitive behavioural therapy for example, and ancient eastern practices such as mindfulness and self-compassion. Together, we may delve into unconscious motivations as a route to greater self-awareness and insight, oscillating between looking back and looking forward; we may explore personal meaning in life in hopes of finding more peace and purpose; we may dive into the body as a means of healing unresolved or trapped emotions and experiences, learning self-regulation tools and more.

To my clients I endeavour to bring great sensitivity, curiosity for your experience, warmth, openness and compassion. All are welcome.
